#CoupleGoals: What We Can Learn From the Adorable Couples of the Internet

Ray-and-Wilma-Yoder

Just when you feel like love is surely dead, along comes an adorable story about a couple that embodies #CoupleGoals (thanks, internet!)

But these stories about adorable prom-posals and love-going the extra mile are about more than melting the coldest of hearts, they actually offer some really great insight into how to have a successful relationship.

Here’s a few of our favorite adorable couples from the internet and what we can learn from them.

Ray and Wilma Yoder

Ray and Wilma had big dreams: visit all 645 Cracker Barrel restaurant locations together. For the past thirty years, they’ve been driving their trusty RV around the country and hitting up every single country store for some food and good memories. On August 28th, they completed their mission and visited the 645th Cracker Barrel. Even better: their visit coincided with Ray’s 81st birthday.

As a memento of the occasion, the couple was given official Cracker Barrel aprons and ushered into the restaurant with a hand clap tunnel made up of Cracker Barrel employees.

As they explained in a statement, “Cracker Barrel is our home away from home… During our visits to Cracker Barrel stores over the past 40 years, we have made friends across the country and enjoyed making wonderful memories together.” A quick glance at the photos of these joyful, adorable octogenarians and it’s clear that they’re #livingtheirbestlife.

What we can learn from them:

The couple that Cracker Barrels together, stays together. There’s something to be said about having a common goal and/or passion. Whether it’s a favorite restaurant or a big dream (or a combination of both!) having something you can bond over and pursue together is a wonderful way to create shared memories.

Kyle Parry and Stephanie Hoekstra

While firefighter Kyle Parry was busy rescuing people from the rising waters of Hurricane Harvey, his own home was practically decimated. Knowing he wouldn’t be able to return home for awhile, he managed to secure a few belongings before going out to help. He put his fiancee’s wedding dress on the highest shelf in their house and prayed it wouldn’t get ruined. He then saved their pets before heading out to save others from their homes.

When Kyle finally returned to their home a few days later, the water was up to his chest and most of their belongings were lost. BUT, Kyle did manage to save his future wife’s wedding dress, which is now being safely stored at the fire station. Cue: warm and fuzzy feelings.

The couple was supposed to get married on September 10, but they are postponing their wedding for right now to focus on rebuilding their lives after Hurricane Harvey. Stephanie told CNN, “We love each other so much. We’ll get married another day. We’ll be OK.”

What we can learn from them:

Know what matters to the person you’re dating and take action accordingly. Kyle didn’t have to make the dangerous trek back into their home to save Stephanie’s dress – probably because he knew it would be important to her (especially after they lost everything). But more importantly, what makes this story heartwarming is that you get the impression this couple is going to be fine with or without their material possessions because they love each other. The lesson here: people are more important than things.

The man who fed his girlfriend chicken nuggets while she got her nails done

Lea Adame, a 19-year-old Orange County native, was getting her nails done when she started eavesdropping on a “cute” conversation going on near her, according to BuzzFeed News.

She looked over and realized the manicurist sitting next to her, Molly, wasn’t just doing any other customer’s nails. In fact, the young woman she was manicuring was actually her son’s girlfriend, and this was the first time they were meeting. As if that wasn’t sweet on it’s own, Molly’s son was sitting next to his girlfriend while she got her nails done, “periodically” feeding her chicken nuggets.

Adame, tweeted the photo saying, “a guy at the salon is straight up feeding his girl chicken nuggets while she gets her nails done that’s the kind of love & support i need.”

As she told Buzzfeed news, “It was so cute… He was a keeper… What guy will go to a nail salon with a girl, let alone will feed her food while there?” My thoughts exactly!

What we can learn from them:

Want to be a good partner? Pay attention to your partner’s needs and help in any way you can – like when their nails are wet and they need to get their fill of processed chicken. Also, food is the gateway to the heart. I’m sure Ray and Wilma would agree.
